Explaination:

Steel is a de-regulated sector. The Government acts as a facilitator, by creating a conducive policy environment for the development of steel sector across all states in the country, including Maharashtra. However, India is self-sufficient in most grades of steel, with imports contributing a very small percentage of the country’s steel production. Ferro-Nickel is an important raw material for stainless steel production. There is sufficient reserve of iron ore and non-coking coal in the country to meet the current demand/consumption by domestic steel industry. However, the coking coal is imported as the supply of high-quality coal/ coking coal (low-ash coal) in the country is limited as compared to the demand which is primarily used by Integrated Steel Producers. Steel CPSEs has been procuring coking coal from a diversified group of countries mainly Australia, United States, Russia, Indonesia, Mozambique etc.

पोलाद हे नियमनमुक्त क्षेत्र आहे. महाराष्ट्रासह देशातील सर्व राज्यांमध्ये पोलाद क्षेत्राच्या विकासासाठी पोषक धोरणात्मक वातावरण निर्माण करून सरकार एक सुत्रधार म्हणून काम करते. तथापि, भारत पोलादाच्या बऱ्याच श्रेणींमध्ये स्वयंपूर्ण आहे, देशाच्या पोलाद उत्पादनात आयातीचा वाटा फारच कमी आहे. स्टेनलेस स्टील उत्पादनासाठी फेरो-निकेल हा महत्त्वाचा कच्चा माल आहे. देशांतर्गत पोलाद उद्योगाची सध्याची मागणी/वापर पूर्ण करण्यासाठी देशात लोहखनिज आणि नॉन-कोकिंग कोळशाचा पुरेसा साठा आहे. तथापि, कोकिंग कोळसा आयात केला जातो कारण देशात उच्च-गुणवत्तेचा कोळसा/कोकिंग कोळसा (लो-एश कोळसा) पुरवठा प्रामुख्याने एकात्मिक पोलाद उत्पादकांद्वारे वापरल्या जाणाऱ्या मागणीच्या तुलनेत मर्यादित आहे. स्टील CPSEs मुख्यत्वे ऑस्ट्रेलिया, युनायटेड स्टेट्स, रशिया, इंडोनेशिया, मोझांबिक इत्यादी देशांच्या विविध गटांकडून कोकिंग कोळसा मिळवत आहेत.
